The Challenge
HOKA's Clifton Pro, a new high-end everyday trainer, was set for a broad marketing push and needed a supporting campaign for positioning it to athletes who use running as part of their off-field conditioning to train "like a pro". DICK'S Media was asked to develop new creative around that objective, led by a hero commercial and supported by multi-channel static placements promoting the overall product and exclusive colorways at DICK'S Sporting Goods.

The Solve
To legitimize what it means to train like a pro, we wanted real athletes using the Clifton Pro on their run, juxtaposed with on-field moments to show how running supports their performance. Brandon Inniss, captain and wide receiver for Ohio State University's football team, and Anaiyah Robinson, Forward for Florida State University's women's soccer team, were cast to ensure true athletic talent in the action and leverage their audiences.

Run Scenes
Downtown Columbus, Ohio was the setting for our athletes on their run. Weather, always being the wild card, had us creatively adapting for Brandon Inniss's sequences to happen in the rain. Anaiyah Robinson's sequences ended up with the clear skies and high-key lighting that were originally planned for, which ultimately added an element of contrast for the edits where they would be featured together.

Ohio Wesleyan University's football field was our setting for Inniss's on-field training montages. Working with a local coach and players who helped develop a series of drills, our camera team work nimbly around the action, capturing the power and intensity of his skills.

ScottsMiracle-Gro Field, the home stadium of MLS team Columbus Crew, served as the backdrop for Robinson's high-speed action around the pitch. The stadium's sponsor LED screens were used to run custom graphics, making the space feel designed and purposeful to the spot.

Both Inniss and Robinson lent an extra personal touch to the campaign through their voices, reading from scripts inspired by their own answers to the question of what it means to train like a pro. The edits leaned on carefully staged shots across locations during filming to allow for match cuts, visually signaling that connection between running and on-field performance.
